The New York Times recently published a review of The Nutcracker wherein the reviewer commented about a dancer’s weight.  While this might not seem like a horrific thing initially, this dancer has a well-documented struggle with eating disorders.  (She is 37 now, her eating issues became problematic when she was 16.)

The reviewer, perhaps thinking he was being being snarky, was absolutely clueless.  A comment of this sort is tasteless and should be considered off limits.  He wouldn’t think of referencing a dancer’s battle with cancer or HIV in less than a heroic context in a review; the same should apply here.
