Joan Peyser’s Passing

The New York Times published an interesting obituary about Joan Peyser. Peyser was an author wrote wrote biographies of Bernstein and Gershwin, and many other literary accomplishments.

    Thanks for posting this, you guys. I’ve read Peyser’s books, and while I can’t say they offered the sort of information needed by a serious musicians/academics, I think they do provide insight into the world of contemporary music and 20th century composers that’s often desperately needed by the lay reader. If nothing else, her work prompted much needed discussion regarding the role of the musician’s personal life in their public music-making.
